A typical Louis XVI writing and reading table from 1783 with Sèvres porcelain marqueterie on all 4 sides and on the top. Special attention was paid to details as for all our products (gold rim, high quality textures). At the same time it is low prim (15 prims) and will beautifully adorn every interior - both modern and historical.
About the original at the Wallace Collection, London:
This table, characteristic of the 1780s in its ingenious mechanical fittings, combines a writing- and reading-table. Concealed within are two drawers, a candle-stand at each side and a mechanism allowing the entire top to be raised and tilted to form a book-rest. It was made by Carlin almost certainly for the dealer Dominique Daguerre. As Carlin died in 1785 this must have been one of his last pieces. The five Sèvres porcelain plaques bear the date letters for 1783 and have been attributed to Edme-François Bouilliat père (1746-1802).
