This roleplay item accurately recreates a viking burial at sea, by ship burning. A tall carved runestone [menhir] cluster is the rezzer that is placed on a coastline, and when activated, it will rez a wooden, normal version of the funeral ship, and, as RP progresses, a burning version.
Both ships are accurate representations of a viking longship, based on knarr or skute design, with dragon prow heads;they feature sitting benches, complex rigging, a black sail with a vegvisir compass design, and a ready pyre in the back of the ship, complete with weapons laying on it:a sword, spear and shield.
The burning version, instead,is entirely wreathed in flames, emitting warm light, sound, floating embers and a tall column of smoke.
When clicked, the Menhir will rez the wood version of the ship, ready to be set alight. The "dead" AV takes place, laying on the ship's pyre, and when RP progresses, a menu allows to instantly rez the burning version and derez the wooden version at the same time [without unsitting the AV that is laying on the pyre],thus simulating the ship catching fire.
Furthermore,to enhance roleplay,a custom charred/burned set of eyes and skin is included,to be worn when the ship is set alight.
After roleplay, the burning ship can be derezzed, leaving only the Menhir to mark the place.
A great roleplay item for a true and historical viking sea burial, although not an item for the faint of heart.
Anyone can click the Menhir to receive the charred skin and eyes, and lay on the ship. Only the owner of the Viking Funeral Ship, and others in the same group that the Menhir is set to,can operate the rezzing menus.
Trident has been designing and creating medieval and ancient builds since 2007. The inspiration for our work comes from our passion for medieval reenactment and research of historic houses, ships, furniture and jewelry.
