Could be better.

Pros: looks nice, good physics

Cons:Needs a wind option for when you're flying around sandboxes (rather than always be effected by wind), going into mouselook caused my fps to drop by 30 even at the lowest object render setting (which has caused me to crash into the ground multiple times and has also made my viewer give me a insufficient memory error), could use a particle upgrade rather re-using the same old particles

Also would love if april would respond to notecards on reasons of why I am randomly banned from the sim.

Pretty but massively overpriced and exceedingly limited in practical uses.

Before I start in earnest I will say that this is a beautifully made helicopter, with an extreme level of detail, I cannot fault it on this. In fact it makes a lovely helicopter to fly for pleasure and it'd make an excellent display piece, if you're willing to pay about £15 ($25-$30ish) for a land ornament.

However when your paying this sort of money you should expect to get some great use out of what you buy and be able to take advantage of every feature without limitation, this is where the helicopter, for little fault of its own, falls short. As its being sold as a combat helicopter, I'd of expected to get plenty of chances to use its myriad of weaponry, however I have yet, in months of ownership, to actually say I've gotten to use it as such. The problem lies in that it is meant for LCS (which nobody in their right mind would use) and OCS, the former is obviously not a serious option and the latter may well be worse.

Allow me to elaborate, there is only -one- sim in SL that is meant for OCS combat and it is not intended for player versus player combat, in fact except for two periods of two hours each on a saturday, the sim is flooded with Drones. Drones I might add, which are all armed with rocket launchers and an exceptional aim, I have yet to see anyone taking these pretty helicopters into the sim (Fulda Gap), in fact I can safely say that whenever I took a vehicle into this sim I was summarily annihilated by a swarm of rockets.

So effectively I paid £15 for a Helicopter I cannot get any use out of in the damage system it was designed for and one I am unwilling to take into the horrors of LCS in which it is completely inappropriate for. I effectively paid £15 for a pretty helicopter that I can only viably use for pleasure flying across Blake Sea.

In short, you're paying £15 for the most expensive combat helicopter on SL, when you can't use it in combat, I can honestly say its not worth it.

I will admit it is hard to fly initially. However there is tons of information and assistance for it. It looks incredible and the weapons system is awesome! Very cool effects!

Helicopters in SL don't get much better than this.

With extremely accurate flight physics and involved combat capabilities, there are no other helos better than this one in SL folks.

There was alot of love put into this creation.. the details of the mesh work, the sounds of the rotary wings and the weapons, and of course, the physics of the helo itself when it comes to air turbulence, pitch, yaw, increases and reduction in collective.. they are all well represented here, and were no doubt well scripted and heavily tested. Even the act of hovering is quite realistic, as the helo does not just "float" in mid air like every other helicopter in SL. You will find in rather windy conditions, you will need to make adjustments as a pilot would in an actual helicopter, to keep her in place.

The weapons are all well done, there is no latency in firing the chain gun or launching the missiles, and all use realistic "trails" and sounds for the types of weapons they are. The profiles that can be used for missile launch are also quite helpful depending on range and circumstance.

If you are considering buying this helo, you no doubt have reservations, because of the price. I can tell you right now.. it is worth every linden. You are definitely getting what you pay for here. The helicopter, as in real life, is only as good as the pilot.. you WILL have to practice to become good at flying this bird, but once you master it.. it will take over your "second life" as it becomes quite addictive =)

Whether you are looking for a helicopter for serious endeavours in your favorite combat sim, or just a damn nice collector's item.. You won't be sorry with this purchase.

NOTE: The helo is meant to be flown using mouselook, and the weapon systems cannot be used out of mouselook anyway. If you still have reservations, try contacting a senior member of Omega Concern, to set up a demo flight, as I did. (Thanks Eric !!)

The most realistic helicopter in Second Life - and April's greatest work yet.

Rotary-winged aviation has long been an interest of mine, and I buy helicopters in Second Life from many, many different developers. I can say with some authority, therefore, that I have never encountered a helicopter with flight and weapon scripts as realistic as this one has. There is a learning curve involved in flying the chopper well, but once mastered, flying this aircraft quickly becomes an addiction. The mesh model features more detail and accuracy than any other I have seen in SL, the scripts cause little to no lag in flight or combat, and the helicopter as a whole makes an amazing and imposing picture as you pilot it through any sim. The WAH-64 is mean, angular and ugly, and looks every inch a killer.

This particular vehicle features a number of functional improvements over the last version - hellfires have gotten a great overhaul. One of my favorite improvements over OCS's older AH-64D is that this vehicle needs no attachments - Which means less inventory clutter and greater overall stability when crossing sim borders. The crossings themselves are smoother than I could imagine - Sim borders in Undine State, for example, took a maximum of two seconds to cross every time.

Rather than waxing eloquent on the merits of this helicopter all day, I'll complete this review by simply stating that it is a must-have for any aviation enthusiast that appreciates high-quality work and simulation-quality flight. Here is an aircraft that transcends its considerable combat utility and becomes a vehicle that's fun to fly anywhere, and a testament to your good taste.
