The WereHouse DireWolf V2
Release Date: June 2011
Avatar Type: Large Quadruped Wolf Avatar
Script Count: 54!

Note: The WereHouse DireWolf requires that you are using the latest version of the Second Life Viewer, or compatible viewers. The Wolf avatar uses a Mesh Deformer, multiple attachments, alpha layers and some scripted objects that require the updated viewers to work properly.

The WereHouse Avatars were at the forefront of Second Life® quadruped avatar creation since our first "Critters" line was introduced in early 2006. Since then we've offered 170 different quadruped avatar choices, including the smaller Critters up to the huge Dires.

The Dire Wolf Version 2 is our first revamp in the "WereHouse Dires" line of avatars. It comes with many of the great features people have known our avatars for: Facial expressions, customization, user controlled animations, and more!

So let's talk actual features. Starting with the visuals, the wolf comes with seven stock texture packs: Timber, Obsidian, Arctic, Mackenzie, Red, Silver, and Recolorable. This means you can choose between six realistic color phases, or select the Recolorable skin to make your own scheme. The Recolorable Texture Pack has four color areas: Body, Underside, Legs, and Paws. In addition, the eyes have three recolorable areas that work with every skin: Pupil, Inner Iris and Outer Iris. Users can also use the HUD to select the pupil size for the avatar. A new feature for the Dire is an auto pupil dilation that makes the pupil respond to the position of the sun. During Midday, the pupils are mere pinpricks, but at night they will be fully dilated! (Note this only works with the regional sun position, not using the Environment Settings to override the sun's position.)

The Dire Wolf is also built to accept third party texture packs. That means if a person makes their own texture set and wishes to sell it or give it away to Dire Wolf avatar owners, they can seamlessly add it to the Avatar without having to go through us. Placeholder buttons are available on the HUD to access newly added texture packs, or via command line.

The Dire Wolf comes with a HUDAO (Heads Up Display Animation Overrider) that controls most aspects of the avatar. The Dire Wolf comes with 48 Animations. This includes the standard AO animations of: eight idle stand poses, walk, run, flying, hovering, swimming, etcetera. The HUD has 22 user selected animations, including ear scratching, growling, howling, laying/sleeping poses, and other common canine behaviors. The HUD also allows the Dire to deploy a modifiable saddle vehicle that can be controlled by the Dire Wolf or by the rider.

The HUD also has seven facial expressions available, including snarling and panting. It also has controls for the Ears and Tail. The Ear toggles allow you to set up the ears to move around randomly, flick on 'touch', or be forced forward or pinned back. The tail allows you to select an up or down position, three wagging speeds, and select between a flexi tail and a sculpted prim tail.

The avatar and the HUD are modifiable. And it has new scripting that will allow you to resize any moving parts. So you can make the nose longer, shorter, thinner, etc, and the facial expression functionality will still work.

So a quick overview, the WereHouse Dire Wolf (v. 2) comes with the following:

•21 Facial Control Commands
•6 Eye Control Commands
•8 Jaw Control Commands
•13 Ear Control Commands
•17 Tail Control Commands
•17 Texture Control Commands
•11 Color Control Commands
•48 Animations
• Saddle Vehicles that are either Dire or Rider controlled.
•7 Built in Texture Packs (Six realistic texture sets, one recolorable set)
•Multifunctional HUDAO

If you bought a pre v2.5 Dire Wolf, the update is free. Use your updater that came with the avatar to get it.

Quick rundown of updates:
-Now uses a mesh deformer. The Avatar itself is still sculpted prims, but uses a mesh shape. This fixes the 'sinking in the ground' issue. Deformer animations have been removed.
-All the scripts have been updated to work better with server side textures.
- Tail and legs rebuilt to appear more streamlined/realistic.
-Walk and Run anims made with less ‘kicking out’ so they no longer appear to be ‘prancing’.
-HUD Selected Animations that change facial expressions will now revert the expression once the animation is done being used/playing.
-Sculpted mode Tail will change position for some Animations.

Love this Avatar

This avatar is great it is bigger than the Mesh TWI timber wolf, and while yes some of the movements are jerky or a little off, but all in all it is a geat product. I love the detail in the fur and face. The hud is a bit large but very easy to use and the animations make role playing great. The howl is deep and low perfect for a dire wolf. Great product I love it.

it's nice but I have one complaint

I love the avatar, although I bought it for a mod by princessaii. The complaint is that the AO is repetitive and I can't seem to alter it in anyway. The other is the away position puts your head through the floor... wtf?

A walk on the were side

Jakkal's made a really nice job of this avatar, it is packed with animations and easy to customise. The build is both attractive and majestic, I don't feel like an oversized dog while wearing it, unlike certain "werewolf" avatars I have bought from other vendors. The Dire Wolf shows that she has a profound respect for wolves and cares about those customers of hers who would wear it as an expression of their spirituality rather than just a roleplaying persona. The walking animation does look a little funny, but all the other animations and poses are so well done that I won't count that against it. I've bought third party texture packs for this avatar and they don't come close to the quality of Jakkal's built in textures, you can tell that many years of experience have gone into this.

Pretty cool

Overall I'm pleased with the avatar, though it does feel like it needs a bit of updating. The general look of it is pretty good, though my biggest gripe is that the animations seem a bit out of date. All in all though it's good work, and definitely the best available on the market. 4/5.

I am so happy I went ahead and purchased this. absolutely magnificent. The animations are great and everything works very good. my only complaint of the entire thing is when you play animations on it the expressions dont reset to previous so you have to do it by clicking the expressions and setting them that way. definetly not a downside by any means just personal preference. thank you very much for the great work I have enjoyed this very much. 100% deserve these 5 stars keep up the good work. I look forward to seeing your future work.
