Orbit HUD: Professional Lighting and Posing for SL Photography. Intuitive, Smart, Easy

[Normally $4995] v1.6 launch weekend sale, $2995

You don't need a huge laundry list of features. You need lighting and posing that just works, and lets you focus on being creative.

═══════════════════════════════════════

WHY ORBIT WORKS

Most lighting systems bury you in complexity. Orbit shows you exactly where your lights are with a visual orbital ring - click where you want the light, adjust height and distance with sliders, and start shooting.

Everything you need is visible. Nothing you need is hidden.

═══════════════════════════════════════

CORE FEATURES

VISUAL ORBITAL INTERFACE - See your light positions at a glance. Click the ring to position, use sliders for height/distance. Use settings panel to adjust color, intensity, etc. No coordinates, no confusion.

SAVE & SHARE PRESETS - Save unlimited custom setups. Export to share with friends. Import presets from others. One feature most systems don't have.

THREE PROFESSIONAL LIGHTS - Spot (projector with shadows), Fill (softens shadows), Background (optional accent)

60-SECOND SETUP - Attach HUD, click "Give Lights", attach rig, start shooting.

INTEGRATED POSING - Control lighting AND poses from one HUD. No pose stands needed. Works in no-rez sims. You can add your own poses. Includes 31 starter poses.

No hidden menus. No "which mode am I in?" Just lighting.

First time I heard of this product, I was curious about it when I saw the UI alone. I tried the Demo which the creator was amazing for having such a functional demo! I spent a good bit of time tinkering and toying with it, sampling some ideas from it, and I found it, out of every other tool similar to this, to be quite easy to use but very good! It's not difficult to work with, it doesn't take much to get familiar with it's controls, which is why I liked it!
I was comparing this to other products, and I won't name them specifically in this review, but.. What I found is, this is easy to use, small, something that takes much space on the screen, and yet, it works, and works quite well, and that's what helps. The ability to control animations of the person as well, was an extra benefit that I was looking for, and it just happened to do both lighting and animation poses, and most of all... It's simple, works, and is very nice.

So damn logical and simple ... even numb-nuts like me can use it easily :-) .....
Love the HUD layout, sensible, easy to understand and master, gives loads of control over what you want to do and then do it easily with simple controls. The package of lighting Presets are a gift.
And, you can use it on other avatars you're working with!
Individual controls on the three types of lights (Spot, Fill, Background) is awesome…the variations in effects it creates is virtually limitless!
Plus, you can add poses as required, if required!
Worth every Liden$L, complete and very well-thought-out, this is a winner!

Light, pose, shoot: studio results in minutes

Orbit clicked for me in the first minute. The orbital ring shows exactly where each light sits around the model, so there is no guessing or hunting through modes. I click at 45 degrees, set height and distance on the sliders, and the spot lands where I expect. The presets are proper studio patterns rather than gimmicks. Rembrandt, Clamshell, Butterfly and Split look correct out of the box. When I want drama I move to Film Noir or Low Key, and for clean work I would pick High Key or Magazine Cover. From there it is a couple of small tweaks to suit the subject, then save to a named preset. Exporting and sharing those setups with collaborators is straightforward, and importing theirs works just as cleanly. The HUD controls both lighting and posing, so I do not need a pose stand or rez rights, and it behaves well in no-rez venues. The learning curve is short, the interface is readable, and the whole tool respects my time.

After a week of shoots, reliability has been solid. Projector shadows stay crisp, the fill softens without flattening skin, and the background light adds separation without washing tones. Presets have sensible names, which helps during a live session when I need Butterfly or Golden Hour on cue. The HUD is light on script load, resizes neatly, and keeps the viewport uncluttered. Posing is straightforward and controlled from the same HUD, with a clear list of included poses and the option to load my own sets. It handles one avatar at a time as described, which is what I need for portraits and product frames. The ability to hand the light rig to a model is useful, and the save and share workflow speeds repeat sessions. Credit to Felix Muromachi for a professionally composed tool. The design choices are disciplined, the documentation is plain, and support was fast and practical. Orbit feels built by someone who actually photographs in SL, which is why it keeps me focused on the shot rather than the interface.

Easy and fun way to level up your photos

This lighting rig is fantastic! I've bought lighting products in the past that I never ended up using because I couldn't figure them out. This one is really intuitive and the HUD makes it extremely easy to play around with lighting. I love the built in presets - it's fun to cycle through them to get ideas or a good starting place to further tweak. Being able to add your own presets is handy too. The fact that you don't have to rez anything is great, and the ability to give the lights to someone else to wear is even better, as is the ability to pose your model. Overall it's just a lot of fun to play around with the position of the lights without worrying about screwing things up because you can always tell where they are, and you can just reset them to a default position or a preset.
