Abayomi is a store focused on Afro-Latin culture, especially Afro-Latin-Brazilian, its origins and reverberations. A shop that talks about black people, because black is beautiful.

To cherish her children during the terrible voyages aboard the "tumbeiros" - a small ship carrying the slave trade between Africa and Brazil - the African mothers tear patches of their skirts and from them they created small dolls, made of braids or us, who served as protection amulet. The dolls, a symbol of resistance, became known as Abayomi, a term meaning 'precious meeting' in Yoruba, one of the largest ethnic groups in Africa, whose population lives in parts of Nigeria, Benin, Togo and Cote d'Ivoire.

Para acalentar seus filhos durante as terríveis viagens a bordo dos tumbeiros – navio de pequeno porte que realizava o transporte de escravos entre África e Brasil – as mães africanas rasgavam retalhos de suas saias e a partir deles criavam pequenas bonecas, feitas de tranças ou nós, que serviam como amuleto de proteção. As bonecas, símbolo de resistência, ficaram conhecidas como Abayomi, termo que significa ‘Encontro precioso’, em Iorubá, uma das maiores etnias do continente africano cuja população habita parte da Nigéria, Benin, Togo e Costa do Marfim.
