I just couldn't resist buying though because this RL bakery was in the neighborhood where I grew up in Rego Park, NY, on Queens Blvd. How cool is that? Imagine my surprise when I saw this pop up as I was browsing buildings. The RL bakery has been gone for a few years and I really miss it. The real building was a long row of storefronts with brick apartment buildings at either end. There were no sides to see because Jay Dee was right in the middle of the block with a hardware store to the left and a drugstore to the right. None of that really matters in SL anyway but that's where the front bakery image came from and the natural environment where this would look right....if it could look right.

So this SL thing? It's a basic box prim with images on the sides. There's no detail whatsoever and the images are pretty low-resolution. You can tell if you look at the photos here how bad this is. The flat pay phone is the real giveaway if you don't notice anything else. I thought maybe I could get away with it as a photo backdrop if I shot the right angle and I might still try that. Really it was just a cheap souvenir of my RL past to have in SL. Maybe I'll rez it as a miniature on a table somewhere. It wouldn't look too bad if it was too small to really see the lack of detail.

It would be so cool if someone with actual building skill (like creating mesh and texturing it properly) would do Jay Dee some justice. It was a great little bakery that deserves to live on in SL.
