Nice tree
full star full star full star empty star empty star Posted June 25, 2017 by Avigdor Blackwood

This is a nice tree/s of two trunks, just not very large for 6LI. I was able to stretch just a bit without increasing LI but it barely reached the eaves of the roof line on my two story home. By the time I stretched it to the height of the peak of the roof it was 11LI. So the grouping of three of these, in the main photo of the listing, is at least 18LI at standard size. If you are wanting a number of them to group into a grove, you are going to need to devote a great deal of your LI to them. The use of alpha masking rather than alpha blending on the foliage is wonderful, and the leaves are rendered beautifully, but I do not understand why the tree is retaining leaves in the Winter time version. Where I live, our birch trees shed their leaves in the Winter, so that is what i was expecting instead of white leaves. The bark texture is not as high in detail as the listing suggests, and the repeat per sqm is set very high for the texture face, so there is an awful lot of repetition. It is mod, so this can be adjusted to some degree, but the detail begins to suffer quickly when the repeat is reduced. The LM was not functioning and there is a not on the merchant's profile about rebuilding, so I purchased based solely on the opinion of the reviews, which is a mistake to do. In summary, it is a nice tree, but If I had seen it in-world I would not have purchased it for my needs.

Realist Birch Tree

As a child our neighbor had three HUGE birch trees and I have loved them ever since. This is a very realistic looking tree of a medium height almost as tall as my 2 floor cottage, probably about 13-14 meters. I am very glad I bought it.

Absolutely fantastic trees, and customer service

I've had good and bad on the MP, and the occasional outstanding. This is at the top of the outstanding category.

The birch trees look terrific. I've looked at, and bought, a lot of really nice trees so far in SL, some more expensive than these birches for just one tree. These are the equal to any of them, and certainly better than any others I have in one respect - these use Alpha Masking instead of Blending.

Practically all the trees I've looked at use Blending to create the transparency and smooth the edges of the leaves. Looks great, but really hits your graphics card like a hammer especially if you have a few and go and stand in the middle of them. Like Alpha grass, it can be a lag monster waiting to happen, or just drop your framerate uncomfortably. Even with my GTX970, a bunch of Alpha Blending tress makes it hit 100% GPU use as soon as I go near them. Alpha Masking is much simpler for the GPU to render and in return you get a higher FPS and less heat pumping out of your PC.

Making a texture that looks good using Masking is harder work (I know, I do it myself) but that job has been done admirably here. The trees are highly detailed, with crisp leaf edges, accurate and realistic shading and they look good from every angle. The use of materials (make sure it's enabled in your viewer for best effect) finshes the trees off and makes them look probably the most realistic trees I have seen in SL. And as a bonus - no lag-inducing Blending.

I will be buying more from this store in the future - once I've planned what I want where.

Easy five stars - wish I could give more.

Replaced all my winter trees

I brought home both the winter birch, and the winter fir tree, and received a lovely IM from the designer telling me about the 4 season birch version. I placed them out with the landscaping I already had in place in my winter home and the lighting and texture of these trees were so realistic, it made the rest of my trees look cheap in comparison. Needless to say, all the other trees got uprooted and I modded the two different tree varieties to different sizes to recreate my winter wonderland. It is sparkly, bright, and beautiful. I love that the birch is 4 season and appreciate the designer making me aware of this, and being willing to swap my single season purchase. This was my first experience with this landscape designer, and I would definitely recommend and purchase again, both from a quality and a customer service standpoint.
