GRAND HABIT De COUR
The grand habit was the most formal of all the gowns worn by the court of Versailles. The skirts of these gowns were worn over a larger pannier (frame) than any of the other court gowns. It was required that these be worn at all state occasions, as well as many formal balls. They were NEVER worn outdoors.
