Correct Height Scale

At the time of this writing, the avatar height given by most viewers when editing shape is not correct. Most resident-made height detectors are also wrong. This is because both uses an avatar attribute called llAgentHeight, which is not your avatar's size at all. As such, even the shorter avatars created with a specific height in mind are taller than intended.

It's a known fact that many avatars in SL are too large relative to the scale of the world. If this is the majority or not is very hard to say since none of us have actually seen a statistically relative number of avatars. Linden Labs probably knows but I have not seen any official statement of average avatar height.

The problem is not that some people have large avatars. The problem is that some creators and others adapt to a perceived "standard" which is not defined, basically assuming "everyone is taller than they should be but we don't know exactly how much". The result is that products and environments vary wildly in size, leaning towards being too large relative to the scale of the world.

It is good for everyone if people started to take the actual scale of the world into account. If everyone did we could judge the size of a product before we buy (if it's made to scale it's made to scale, if you are too it will fit) and all environments would seem properly sized. A standard is a good thing and there is such a standard since SL is a scaled world.

No wonder then that there is confusion since not even the official viewer will correctly give you the actual size of your avatar.
