ALL SAINTS ICON (ST. PARASKEVI CHURCH)

This icon is a representation of Christ and all of the Saints — that is, all those who have been saved and sanctified in Christ. Icons of All Saints vary in their form, but typically include images of Mary the Mother of Jesus, John the Baptist, the Apostles, Christian holy women and men, rulers, and theologians, as well as Old Testament prophets and kings.

This SL icon is one of our “standard” or “mute” icons — it is merely a reproduction of an image, as opposed to our “talking” icons, which display quotes from Scripture when touched.

Our icons are created for private use and display in churches and other places in SL. They should not be resold or adapted for resale. Their size and position can be modified. Copy and Transfer permissions depend upon the particular version of the icon purchased.

ABOUT THIS ICON

This image is taken from a Greek icon identified as located at Saint Paraskevi Church in Adam. It can be found on Wikimedia Commons at https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:04_Sunday_of_All_Saints_Icon_from_Saint_Paraskevi_Church_in_Adam.jpg , and is in the public domain. The English translation of the information (in Greek) at Wikimedia reads “Temporary Stock in Churches of the Thessaloniki region from the 16th to the 20th Century Portable Images, Functional Objects, Old Manuscripts and Manuscripts Books.”

THE FEAST OF ALL SAINTS

Many Christian churches observe a feast day remembering all of the saints who have gone before. In the Western churches, this is observed on November 1st. The Eastern Orthodox churches observe it on the first Sunday after Pentecost. Both Eastern and Western churches also observe minor feast days remembering particular saints throughout the year.
