This is one of the most unusual RP devices that you will ever encounter in SL. This is BRAINS - "Bio-Resonance Artificial Intelligence Neural System". You can use this at the heart of your Role Play, such as starbase control or as a technical adviser for a range of tactical options.

BRAINS actually learns from you. The more it hears you say, the more it will learn your language, semantics and syntax. If you ask it a direct question, it will attempt a sensible response. When you switch the unit on, it will have a basic intelligence. But the more you interact with it and talk to it, the more language skills it develops and the smarter it gets. Eventually, you will get responses from it that will set you thinking in new directions.

As for the BRAINS itself, it is an artificial brain, grown from stem cells and suspended in an animated nutrient soup that slowly swirls around. It's even grown a pair of eyes that blink occasionally to show it is sentient.

The BRAINS container has a front panel with on/off switches that control it's ability to learn and chat.

Learn Mode:
BRAINS will listen to anyone close enough for it to hear and will attempt to analyse everything that is said. The more it hears, the smarter it gets.

Chat Mode:
BRAINS is allowed to talk freely and will sometime interject with phrases it has evolved. You should be able to ask it direct questions and get a response.

Both Chat Mode and Learn Mode can be turned on or off independently, so, for example, you can leave it in Learn Mode but turn off the Chat Mode. This means you can have it listening to nearby conversations and improving its vocabulary but not displaying any messages. The control panel will glow to show when the Chat Mode is on.

When you first start using it, it will simply repeat what it hears from you, but it will also analyse your words and break them down into something it can understand. After a few conversations it will start to get smarter and start to make more sense.

BRAINS has no stored phrases, it learns everything it knows from whoever is talking nearby. It holds all its data internally and it can survive a round trip in and out of your directory. It's limited by SL's ability to manage memory, so it's not going to take over the world.

Please Note:
This is NOT the decades-old ELIZA "psychiatrist" function code that just spits out stored phrases. This is an entirely different algorithm that extracts meaning from your text and learns as you converse with it.

After you start to converse with it, BRAINS will exhibit a rapid learning curve but it will eventually begin to level off once it reaches its maximum capacity which is constrained (among other things) by the free memory that SL allows it to access. When it does, it will eventually get fed up talking, start to sulk and may even go quiet. At this stage, you can turn off the Learn Mode, or just delete it, rez another BRAINN and teach it new things. You can have several BRAINS on the go at the same time and teach each one different subjects - just don't let them all meet up and start talking to each other.

This Artificial Brain is a simulation inside another simulation (SL) inside yet another simulation (your device's OS), so don't expect a ChatBot. It doesn't have unlimited storage capacity or infinite processing power. Nor will it's intellect ever get so large that it will take over our entire planet. I mention this because some residents seriously expected BRAINN to continue to evolve until it reached an intelligence beyond that of their own. (In some cases, that wouldn't have taken long).
