Gustavian bench - carved wooden bench, painted in white, seat covered with soft, light-red, shiny velvet. Sitting place for two people.
Second half of 18th century.
Gustavian style - style characteristic for reign of king of Sweden, Gustav III, introduced after his visit to Versailles. The king was so impressed, that he decided to introduce his own style, but in a slightly different form. Light colours, scallop detailing, delicate gilt is what's characteristic for the style. From royal palaces of Drottningholm and Gripsholm, the style has spread around Europe.
