BASIL THE GREAT AND GREGORY NAZIANZUS
This is a reproduction of an icon of the Church Fathers Basil the Great and Gregory Nazianzus. It is one of our “decorative” or “mute” icons — it is merely a reproduction of an image, as opposed to our “talking” icons, which display quotes from Scripture when touched.
Our icons are created for private use and display in churches and other places in SL. They should not be resold or adapted for resale. Their size and position can be modified. Copy and Transfer permissions depend upon the particular version of the icon purchased.
ABOUT THIS ICON
This icon depicts the Church Fathers Basil the Great (329-379, also known as Basil of Caesarea) and Gregory of Nazianzus (329-390). Along with Gregory of Nyssa, they are known as the Cappadocian Fathers, and were among the most influential supporters of Nicene Orthodoxy. Basil was Bishop of Caesarea Mazaca in Cappadocia (modern-day Turkey), and established the guidelines for communal monastic life. Gregory of Nazianzus was Archbishop of Constantinople and an important theologian. He is considered one of the great rhetorical stylists of the patristic period. They are commemorated with feast days in many Christian denominations, and remembered together on January 2.
This icon is identified on Wikimedia Commons as being in the public domain (date and iconographer not identified). https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Santos-basilio-magno-gregorio-de-nacianzo.jpg
