In 1774 Louis XVI ordered the creation of a vast and magnificent private library at Château de Versailles. Ange-Jacques Gabriel (1698 - 1782), principal architect of the King, of which the library was his last royal creation, had to place it in the new room in place of his grandfather's "Salon des Jeux" (game room).

The boiseries (woodwork) on book cabinets can definitely be considered the ultimate work of Ange-Jacques Gabriel and Antoine Rousseau, the first for drawing, the second for sculpture.

This set contains:

-Central three-part bookcase, consisting of the double door in the middle and two smaller doors on each side. On top are two putti playing, and four vases with garlands of flowers. (Picture 2). Land impact is 8

-Side three-part bookcase, similar to the central one, but with the different carvings, different frieze, as well as the slightly different size. (Picture 4). Land impact is 6

-Double door bookcase with the elongated lower part - freestanding and seamless. (Picture 6). Land impact is 3

-Double door bookcase - freestanding and seamless. (Picture 7). Land impact is 3

-Single door bookcase - freestanding and seamless. (Picture 8). Land impact is 2

-Angle cabinets with a gilded trophy of arms in the central panel. Three versions are available - with the carvings on both sides, on just one side, and without the carvings at all. (Picture 9). Land impact is 4

-Two mirror panels, one complete and the other one with the missing lower part for placing above the fireplace. (Picture 10). Land impact is 2
