At first, I was hesitant about Sharina's suggestion that we should make it an habit to sample the cuisine of the exotic cultures we visited during our travels. After all, the last time we tried this, we were served a giant roasted grub. However, our visit to the Sea Elves and Mermaids living along the tropical coasts of the Shimmering Fen promised a more enticing meal. So, we drank our water-breathing potions and followed our patient guide along the shoreline.

The first course, served by a beautiful opalescent-tailed mermaid, featured a large tray with two types of fish roe. One had small, dark eggs with a salty, rich flavor, while the other had larger, bright orange eggs that burst satisfyingly in your mouth. At the top tier of the tray rested a salad made from finely chopped seaweed. Everything was served in generous portions, displayed in empty lion's paws. The mermaid informed us that the roe were harvested carefully without harming the fish, using a process similar to milking on dry land. I couldn't help but think, 'So far, this is going well, with no sign of giant roasted sea worms or anything of the sort... yet.'
