It sat on the sideboard for years, a gleaming complicated looking box with an elegant horn trumpeting hissing wax reproduced music from another era. The hand crank, polished from years of handling.. creaks as it is wound to generate enough power to revolve the record enough times. The needle connects with a rare surviving black disc, not even a label on the uneven wax. But the sound.. unmistakble.
Capalini Fine Furnishings has always strived to create the most elegant and realistic music boxes. This unique item is still in that tradition.
Polished custom dark woods gleam on the body of this box, the copper fluted horn with just the right touch of shading set this piece apart. From the nameplate and labelling on the back to the volume knob, brass platting, custom sculpted arm holding the horn and custom sculpted hand crank. Touch the box and it comes alive.. the hand crank turning quickly as the music preloads, "generating the power" for this victrola. The hand crank stops, the wax record begins to turn and the unmistable sound of an early recorded piano concerto begins to emanate. Playing Chopin's "Waltz in A Minor, Op 34, No 2", it's a melancholy melody that suits the dark tones and asthetics perfectly. When the song is done, the record stops playing and the gramophone goes quiet. Waiting to be wound again.
Attention to detail is always a trademark of CFF, and this box is intended to be a keepsake or a subtle conversation piece. A perfect gift to give someone special, or an elegant touch to accent a room.
