CLEARANCE - 90% OFF! Montagne Noire - Deuil Noire 1800-1829 Regency/Victorian mourning dress - "Empire"
Details
Montagne Noire Clothiers presentsire (French, "black mourning"), a line of 19th century ladies mourning garments. Our gown series is an interpretation of the four prominent gown silhouettes of the 19th century: Empire, Romantic, Princess and Belle Epoque.
The "Empire" gown seen here reflects the slim, lightweight skirt silhouette and "empire" waistline of the early 19th century Regency era, from approximately 1800-1829.
A matching black straw bonnet with satin ribbon tie at the chin comes with three wigs of the most common hair colors to wear with the form-fitting bonnet.
The "Empire" gown is modifiable, allowing you to tailor the garment to your proportions. The bonnet and wigs are copy/modify.
The custom of wearing black when mourning is said to date back to the Roman Empire, but the height of formal mourning customs and attire belong to the 19th century during the reign of Queen Victoria.
Montagne Noire specializes in historically authentic ladies and gentlemen's clothing and related merchandise. Our focus is Victorian and American West fashion of the late 19th century.
