John James Audubon (1785-1851) was an American ornithologist and painter famous to this day for his extensive study and detailed illustrations of bird species in their natural habitats. His Birds of America is considered by many to be the masterpiece of ornithology to this day. Sadly, the Carolina Parakeet was declared extinct in 1939.
