Salon Table

An oval table on tapered legs of mahogany & birchwood veneer, with an inlaid plaque of Pietra Dura with a representation of flowers, a butterfly and a bird and gilt bronze fittings.

These small salon tables are typical of the 18th century. Believed to have been used as a writing table. But they were also used to place candlesticks or clocks on them or to display favorite artifacts.
