Chat Relay
The purpose of the Chat Relay is to overcome the restriction of the SL chat range. A typical situation where this might be useful could be where a speaker is addressing an audience in a hall, with an overflow in another building. The system is effective throughout, and restricted to, the region in which the chat originates.
The transmitter (ChatRelayA) listens to local chat and sends it to the receiver (ChatRelayB) using RegionSay, which then outputs the messages in local chat in the format:
ChatRelayB: :Original Speaker's Name: :Text of original chat
To avoid the possibility of producing an infinite feedback loop if the receiver is too close to the transmitter, any chat containing the sequence ": :" is not transmitted. This also provides speakers using the system with a method of preventing private speech from being relayed, by simply including this sequence anywhere in the chat line.
The scripts are supplied in token single prims, but can be placed in any objects of the user's choice, and are also supplied separately for convenience. The operation of either Tx or Rx can be toggled on & off by the owner by clicking the object containing the script.
Two-way relay is also possible by placing both scripts in each object.
