Pandemonium - Moeraki Boulders

The incredible Moeraki Boulders are concretions formed by the cementation of the Paleocene mudstone of the Moeraki Formation. Most are estimated to be approximately 2.2 meters in diameter.
Found on Koekohe Beach, they are a national treasure of New Zealand's beautiful city Otago.

According to Maori legend, the origin of the boulders dates from the loss of the Arai-te-uru, one of the large sailing canoes that came from distant Hawaiki.
