Cottage House Bonafide
Are we lonely, or simply alone?
Does a daily schedule determining the hours of the day with no need for the clock, make us feel more alone? Is loneliness when we don't have someone to share our experiences with?
I asked myself the questions because something seemed to be missing from life. So I decided to make changes, live to a different rhythm, and put more thought into every day. The changes brought renewed energy, I had more purpose, and things to do, but I was still not completely satisfied.
I now had a passion for exercise, so I decided to widen my horizons and discover places and things new to me. As I travelled I began to understand how my magical forest had given me a very limited view of the world, and how small it had made my life.
My voyage of exploration took me past all of the special and magical buildings I had discovered and created over the years. As I left the forest a vista stretched before me of plains and rolling hills, with mountains in the distance. When I got closer to a mountain I noticed an abandoned railway tunnel, the rails were gone but the route was clearly visible. Exciting!
The tunnel was long and dark, and I wondered if I would be just a dead end, but finally I saw light in the distance. Outside I found a landscape completely new to me. I followed the abandoned route for hours and hours, over viaducts, through more tunnels, till eventually I saw a building in the distance.
With not a soul to be seen, I wondered if it too had been abandoned like the railway? Someone had been living there lately as nature had not yet taken over the building, but time had done its work on the outside.
Peering through the windows I saw a huge stove, a staircase with metal finishes and stylish wooden walls with window sills, but I couldn't see the floor. There were no clues as to who had lived here, all I could find was the name ‘Bonafide’ on the small oven door outside.
My imagination was now piqued so I continued walking. Around a bend in the path I found another building. Or was it the same building, had tiredness started to get to me?
No, it was different. This one was single storey and had no oven outside, but so many of the details were the same it must surely be the work of the same builder.
I decided to name it ‘Bonafidelle’.
I made myself a promise to go out more often, even if only to look for new food, because then I feel less alone.
The adventure to interpret loneliness brought me these two unique buildings in a style I had never seen before. It's a shame that no people lived there … but that's up to you now.
