COUNCIL OF NICEA ICON 1
This icon is a reproduction of an icon representing the Council of Nicea, at which the central Creed of the Church was formulated in 321. It is one of our “decorative” or “mute” icons — it is merely a reproduction of an image, as opposed to our “talking” icons, which display quotes from Scripture when touched.

ABOUT THIS ICON
This icon depicts the Emperor Constantine (center) and several of the Fathers of the Church present at the First Council of Nicea, held in 321, which formulated the initial version of the Nicene Creed, one of the central doctrinal statements shared by Eastern and Western Christians. They are depicted holding the text of the Creed.
