This lamp is 2Li, and is two separate meshes, linked together. It was created this way so the customer could easily change the angle of the shade to best fit their needs.
There is no shadowing that would cause the user to need to keep the shade in the same place, so you can edit it and move it around in a similar manner to lamps in RL.
For example... If you want the light to go straight down, turn the shade to 0x, and 0y in the edit menu, then move it around until you get it where you need it on the base. If you mess up, throw that one out and rez a new one.
