Demerit System (Family)

Demerits (family version) is a 'points' system which enables parents & guardians to keep track of the behaviour of their children & wards. Its chief advantage lies in the fact that demerits can be given where more serious sanctions are not warranted, and when it is not possible to take corrective action at the time that an offence is committed. It is then possible to take action at a later date, especially when more demerits have accumulated in the database, making it appropriate to do so.

The HUD is worn by parents & guardians, and whenever its 'frowning face' icon is clicked, it presents a dialogue box listing the familiar names of children previously listed in the HUD notecard, On selecting a child's name, 1 - 3 demerits are given, following which a brief statement of the reason is submitted in a text box. The details are sent to a database in a Punishment/Demerit Book, which can be located anywhere on your property. The single-prim book is provided attached to a single-prim bookshelf, but may be detached if preferred. When attached, the book will move out from the shelf for 10 seconds when clicked.

A single click on the Book gives 4 levels of access, which could correspond to Child, Guardian, Parent, and Owner. Each level up enables more facilities to be accessed by dialogue box, ranging from demerit totals (level 1) to backup & restore (level 4). The point at which demerits have to be translated into corrective action is not defined by the system, leaving the parents/guardians to make this decision. When action is taken, an offender's demerits can be individually cleared by anyone at level 2 and above.

It is possible to have more than one system, each with its own communicating HUDs in the same sim. This is achieved by entering an integer in the object descriptions of both Book & HUDs to define the communication channel offset.
