I've had these posters hanging out in my inworld stores for a while and thought it'd be a good idea to make em fullperm and share them around. The timing turned out well; it's currently Blood Cancer Awareness Month (September).
NMDP (formerly Be The Match) is a global charity that helps match bone marrow, stem cell, and cord blood donors to patients who need them.
These transplants don't just treat blood cancers like leukemias, lymphomas, and multiple myeloma - they treat other serious blood disorders like sickle cell, severe aplastic anemia, and severe combined immunodeficiency. They're also sometimes used as a last resort treatment for certain autoimmune conditions.
Since these donations rely on the donor and recipient having matching antigens (to reduce chance of rejection), they always need new donors, especially BIPOC folks!
My mom had leukemia and needed a stem cell transplant - I was not a close enough match, but she was able to get matched with a donor through NMDP. Three years later, she is NED - no evidence of disease!
You can rez out this poster wherever you'd like to spread the word and encourage bone marrow / stem cell donation. On click, it will link to this page, where you can learn more about donating and register as a potential donor. https://www.nmdp.org/get-involved/join-the-registry
