22-12-2022:
Hello SL, long time no see! It's Kyoichi Kaligawa, AKA Ryo, the guy behind New Age Industries. It's been a while. A lot has happened since my quiet exit in 2017 and I found myself back here just out of habit (and boredom), but if anyone wanted to know, I left to become a proper software engineer. I graduated college, got a job, moved to different places, life has been hectic! However, it's always been an awesome journey that never stopped getting better.
Now you're probably wondering, "why come back here?" Long story short, I find a special attachment to this game because it taught me so much. Actually, my friends and family know I've been playing this game since 2005, masquerading as an 18-year-old in the 5th grade, so if I've lied to you about my age-- sorry (we all did though). It's been 5 years since I've made anything proper and decided to return to actually become the builder I wanted to be on my own terms. Money was tight in college and I used the profits to pay for it, but now I don't have that problem. I have the liberty to work and script as I want to, and I can pursue progress at the pace I set.
As for what this is, the FREE DRIVE PROJECT is something I've always dreamed of doing for SL; a series of free, shareable vehicles for anyone who wants something nice to drive. Think of it as the kind of car you wish you got from the freebie warehouses of old. The permissions are intentional to make it easier to distribute for free among anyone on the grid, but the cars are not modifiable to ensure few people would think about scamming others with these freebies. I put it in the name, description, and readme that this is free. Hopefully that's enough!
I know there will be people who sell this car thinking of turning a profit. Unfortunately I won't be able to monitor that, and the only deterrent I can offer is a bunch of warnings on the vehicle telling you it's free, but my hope is I can continue building these simple vehicles as my gift to a game that gave me one of the greatest opportunities ever.
Finally, I highlight I'm focusing on freebies but what does this mean for the NAI brand? Believe it or not, putting together this car was taking a break from some of the newer, more complex features and updates that I'm putting together for main line vehicles. And yes, we have TONS of them planned for the future. Working suspensions, return of the motorized convertible top, and a proper overhaul of our script system are just a few of many features we've been busy at work with. I'm excited for these things to come to market, and I hope everyone enjoys what we have coming!
