Real Life History and Specs:

The "black egg" is a form of Metsubishi originating from feudal Japan. Metsubishi is the technique of temporarily or permanately blinding an enemy to gain either time to escape or time to distract and thus kill the target. This technique can be done in several different manners, some of the more common include: a hollowed-out bamboo shoot filled with a blinding substance (usually crushed chalk, crushed pepper, crushed glass, a mixture of any one, etc) that when swung in a circular half-moon motion would release via inertia its contents, a fragile box that when thrown breaks and releases its content, or in this case, a black egg. A black egg is nothing more than a chicken egg with a small hole poked through the smaller diameter end and held upside down, sometimes for days on end, until the insides are completely dripped out and or dried. Then, a blinding agent or blinding agent mixture is gently filled in. The hole is then sealed with tree sap or a similar adhesive, and the entire outside of the egg painted or dyed black as to make it more camoflaged when used at night. Metsubishi, as stated, can be for blinding permanately or temporarily, but it can also be used lethal or non lethal, as occasionally poisons were added that would enter the body if the poison content entered the right part of the body, ie: mouth or eyes. Metsubishi was typically used by government assassins (ninjas,) thieves, criminals, and occasionally samurai and was generally aimed at the face or eyes directly. Occasionally Metsubishi devices contained bits of flammable or explosive materials that to aid in the initial shock of a target either by a flash of light or loud sound.
