This flag, with its black, red and gold horizontal bars (the colors of the 1848 Revolution) was first adopted in 1919 (Weimar Republic), then again by the German Democratic Republic (1949-1990) and is currently the flag of the Federal Republic of Germany.

The current flag of France, known as the Tricolour, originated as a result of the French Revolution, or more precisely the tricolor cockades the revolutionaries wore on their hats.
