== Getting Started ==
First, if you're new to the whole Restrained Life thing, you need the Restrained Life Viewer. You can download it from here:
http://www.erestraint.com/realrestraint/
Alternately, you can use an alternative viewer with RLV support, such as Cool SL Viewer, Emerald Viewer, or the like. You can use Google to find them. Personally, I use the Cool SL Viewer, but I haven't tried some of the others so I don't really know if it's the best, but I certainly like it. :)
== The Relay ==
Now, in order for furniture and other in-world devices to take advantage of the Restrained Life Viewer, you must also wear an RLV Relay. There are a number of free ones available in world -- this one is ours. It's designed to be as unobtrusive as possible while being easy to use, so no huge logos or icons, just click it for a simple menu with simple options. Despite this, it does display more information and has some features not found in some of the other relays out there, which is the reason we decided to make our own rather than simply offer one of the several free relays already available. It's free, so give it a try and see if you like it better.
First, just wear it. You'll see a tiny green LED appear on the bottom of your screen, a bit to the left. (It attaches to the "bottom" HUD attachment point, but you're free to move it if you like. Be aware that if you position it on the top, you might not be able to read the hovertext that appears when you're being restrained.) If you use the Second Life viewer's toolbar on the bottom of your screen, you might need to move the relay up a tad. On my screen it's still visible even with the toolbar on, but your screen and UI size settings may differ. If you can't see it, go to the menu bar > View > Toolbar to toggle it off, and close your chat bar (press the "Esc" key), then move it up some.
Once worn, you can click on the relay to bring up a menu where you can set the permissions mode, enable "safeword" support, or reset the HUD.
* Mode: This button toggles the permissions mode between "Auto-accept" and "Ask permission". When set to "Auto-accept", any attempts to control you are automatically accepted. This is dangerous, but of course, that's the whole point, isn't it? ;) Nevertheless, some people may only want to be controlled by certain significant others rather than just anyone, so you can switch it from the default auto-accept mode to "Ask permission" instead. When set in "Ask permission" mode, permission is only automatically granted to objects you own, any other devices asking to use the relay will prompt a dialog box on your screen, where you must grant that device permission to control you. If you say "Yes", it is given control, if you say "No", it is not.
* Safeword: Thus button toggles the safeword status beween "On" and "Off" (the default). When a device takes control of you, clicking on the relay normally gives you a box with a little info but no options -- you're completely helpless. However, if the safeword is available, you get one option, "Scream". If you select it, you scream out the safeword. If there is anyone in range to hear you scream, they can come aid you. If there's no one available to help you, it automatically resets the relay, freeing you. You may only scream the safeword once every five minutes. Also, see the caveats of the "Reset" command, they also apply for automatic resets caused by using the safeword with no one around.
* Reset: This resets all the scripts in the relay. You should probably never need to do this, but it's here just in case. Do note that resetting the scripts will return all the settings to their defaults, which means the mode will return to auto-accept and safeword will be turned off. Make sure you change these after a reset if those aren't the settings you want!
== Changes in Version 2.1 ==
Version 2.1 now supports simultaneous control from up to three devices. This is nice for having areas where there's a "zone controller" that applies certain restrictions to everyone in the zone, while also allowing individual pieces of furniture to also apply restrictions. With older relays, one device would have to relinquish control, or no other device could take control. Rarely you might have a need for a third device (zone controller, kidnap tool, and furinture, perhaps). Version 2.0 supported an unlimited number of devices (limited only by script memory), but that was problematic for technical reasons, and there never seemed to be any need for more than three (and almost never more than two).
The way the safeword works has changed significantly in version 2.1. It now automatically releas
Potato code
This relay really buggy, half the time it doesn't work right. Fails to bind me to things, fails to unbind me from things, safeword sometimes works sometimes doesn't. On top of it being buggy it also just poorly thought out you can't deattach it once you put it on so your forced to RLV log if you want to take it off even when it not currently active makes no sense why it designed this way IMO, safeword only works as a safeword if no ones around again makes no sense why it designed this way IMO. The combination of just how buggy this is with how poorly thought-out the design is makes me question why the reviews are so high here, I've used 2 other relays that are far superior but they have almost no reviews for some reason so why is this one so popular?
got the image in the picture and that it.
the only thing that i have in my inventory is exactly what is in the picture, and i mean everything text and all so not really sure if i did something wrong or what.
Not worth it
I realize this is only a free relay hud, but when I think of safeword, I think of just that, a safeword that releases you from a trap. I don't think of a safeword that puts you at more risk by needing someone to rescue you from the trap who may or may not take advantage of that role and put you back in the situation you were trying to get out of...Suggestion: Revamp this so that you can choose HOW the safeword will be used...whether the wearer wants to use the "scream" option or they want an option that releases them from the trap. I was in a position last night where griefers were taking advantage of the relay. I had to log off and log into another viewer to get out of the situation. There are other relays out there that are safer and easier to use.
Awesome Relay!
Am so pleased... Easy to use! Easy to find too! Thanks!!
