Holographic circuit patterns growing out of thin air? It's got to be lasers.
3D particle effect that can be attached to your avatar or rezzed inworld for decoration. Colors and other style settings can be configured via the attached HUD, with a few different "growth patterns" to choose from too. Plant an ever-growing hologram tree! 8 LI if rezzed inworld, as it requires several particle generator prims.
Any resemblance to a screensaver from a late 90s operating system is fully intentional since it is the same algorithm at its heart!

The different patterns and scale options as well as the fact that you can control the start and end color it fades to makes this instantly one of my favorite effects!
