Privacy and security in Second Life are paramount.
There are many legitimate reasons for installing security systems and restricting access to your land. In some cases, aggressive settings are needed to keep unwanted intruders out.
Unfortunately some of these measures can also affect innocent travellers and explorers just looking to get around the grid.
The most impactful are security systems that eject an avatar or even teleport them to their home position with little or no notice.
If those travellers knew in advance that your security exists, they could avoid your parcel and continue on with their journey unhindered.
That's where these skysigns come in. Once set up, your sign will be visible on the world map and travellers will know to avoid your parcel. For the sake of 1-6 LI and an unbeatable price, that seems like a good deal for everyone!
What's in the set?
The set contains a variety of pre-built skysigns covering three basic security setups:
• Security system with "eject" activated (blue signs)
• Security system with "teleport home" activated (red signs)
• Standard "About Land" access restrictions e.g. ban lines (yellow sign)
The sign color lets residents know at a glance what type of security you have in place - red for "teleport home", blue for "eject" and yellow for ban lines. The numbers show the time in seconds before an intruder will be ejected or sent home.
How to install
• Rez the skysign that matches the security setup. Red for TP home, Blue for Eject or Yellow for ban lines.
• Use the SL edit tools to position and resize the sign to fit your parcel. You can resize right up to 64x64m without increasing the LI.
• Align the sign with the top towards north to properly align it with the World Map.
• Set the sign's z-position value to 395m. This is the ideal height for it to show on the SL World Map.
• Wait :) It may take a day or so for your sign to appear on the map.
Note that the sign will appear hexagonal on the world map (see pics). The signs are designed to resemble a security orb with minimal land impact, and we think the hex shape on the map still works!
Custom Signs
Blank signs of each color are included to use as a base for your own custom signs. A set of numbers is included.
