Gran Bwa (Great Tree)
Master of the wilderness, the forest, herbs, healing, and magic. He is wild and untamed, but kind and loving also. Protector of the ancestors who have traveled from this world to the next. The mapou (silk-cotton tree) is sacred to him - it symbolizes the world tree, the bridge connecting the spiritual and material worlds, the axis mundi, represented in voodoo temples by the poteau mitan, or central post in the dance circle.
