The History of Goravan:
The Turkoman region is an important one for Persian rugs. Turkoman tribal rugs are hand-woven by the people of nomadic tribes using the same techniques as their ancestors. They're known for beauty and durability. The bold weaving style associated with Turkoman region can be traced to the 13th century, when the Mongols invaded and settled in the area. The influence of the distinctive Turkoman patterns can be seen throughout the Persian rug industry. Turkoman tribal weavers use the symmetrical Turkish knot in their rugs. The pile is woven of thick and lustrous wool, handspun from local sheep. The foundations are usually made of cotton, but wool and goat hair are sometimes used. The wool is coloured with natural vegetable-based dyes.
Description of Heriz Style:
Heriz Persian rugs are hand-woven in the town of Heriz, south of Tabriz. Heriz rugs are large, thick, heavy tribal rugs well-known for their earth tones and geometric patterns. They feature big, square medallions in black or navy blue set in a lighter field. Their main colours are shades of rust-red, with beige, navy, brown or black details.
Please note the original dimensions of this rug. Although supplied as modifiable, over stretching may distort the pattern. Also note that as a representation of a handmade product it may have less than perfect linage. This part of the beauty of such a rug.
