At the Château de Rambouillet which he had just acquired from the Duke of Penthièvre, Louis XVI had a dairy built in 1785 where Marie-Antoinette "could come and cool off with fresh dairy products", as she did in the hamlet of Trianon where Richard Mique had built such a building in 1784. Designed as a temple with overhead lighting by the architect Jean-Jacques Thévenin, the Rambouillet dairy contained a most original decor, a spectacular heap of rocks, imagined by the painter Hubert Robert. The furniture was also very innovative: Georges Jacob delivered in March 1787 a set of seats - four armchairs, ten chairs and six stools "of new Etruscan style in beautiful solid mahogany wood" accompanied by five tables, according to drawings by Hubert Robert. Marie-Antoinette should never have seen this furniture in place, the Queen not having returned to Rambouillet after the inauguration of June 20, 1786.
