Starting at 5:30am on Mardi Gras day, the Northside Skull and Bone Gang goes door to door in the New Orleans neighborhood of Tremé, waking people up by knocking and doors, playing drums and singing out chants such as, “if you don’t live right, the Bone Man is comin’ for ya.”
Dressed as skeletons and carrying large bones, the gang embodies the literal meaning of carnival - the shedding of flesh. The tradition dates back to 1819 and also has roots in African spiritual traditions.
The outfit includes a shirt, pants, apron, shoes, & gloves. These pieces are rigged for Belleza Jake, CZ Slim, Legacy Athletic & Masculine, and Signature Davis & Gianni. The full set also includes the unrigged horned skull head, cowrie shell top hat, and skull face mask.
