Greater bilbies are nocturnal omnivores that do not need to drink water, as they get all the moisture they need from their food, which includes insects and their larvae, seeds, spiders, bulbs, fruit, fungi, and very small animals. They live in burrows and build extensive tunnel systems with their strong forelimbs and well-developed claws.
They are becoming endangered because of habitat loss and the effect on invasive species. Once widespread in arid, semi-arid and relatively fertile areas, the bilby is now restricted to arid regions.
In modern Australian culture the bilby has replaced the easter rabbit as the symbol of easter.
This animal will be a great exotic addition to your house or parcel and is an absolute must if you are aiming for an Australian bush theme. It also makes for a most endearing and original easter decor :)
Enjoy!
