Most gift boxes in second life are simply containers to hold items. You put your gift in, and give it to the person who is to recieve it. They can open it whenever they want.

I've always found the most exciting part of Christmas and birthdays was seeing that pile of gifts, and wondering what was in them and who they were for, but having to wait to open them. Each day that went by I became more and more anxious to open the gifts, looking forward to the day when i could finally tear them open and see what was inside.

I wanted to make something to bring that experience to SL. This is why I created the HeZkeZl Industries' gift script. It allows you to rez packages for other people out in the open. Put them under your christmas tree, or in a big pile on a table. Somewhere where they can be seen by everyone.

You can set the recipients name, and a "DO NOT OPEN" date. The recipient can look at their gift. They can shake it, they can try to open it, but the script will not let them open it until it is time. If someone else tries to touch the gift, it announces who the gift is from, and who it is for. You can put a bunch of gifts under the tree and people will have fun clicking around to try to find the package for them.

You will recieve an IM whenever the recipient shakes, or tries to open the present before the correct dtae, so that you can scold them appropriately.

When the gift is opened, the contents of the gift box are transferred to the recipient, and the box lets you know that it has been opened by displaying the text "opened" above it.

But the best part of all, is that you can use this script in YOUR OWN PACKAGING. No need to be stuck with the boxes that come with this product, it works in any box!

The interface is completely chat driven and very easy to use.

SETTING UP YOUR GIFT BOX

After you rez your gift box, touch it and it should give you some instructions. It will tell you what channel you should communicate with it on. Every time you rez your box it will use a different channel.

Say, for example the box tells you it's channel is 496

To set the recipient of this gift, type: /496 RECIPIENT_NAME
Replace RECIPIENT_NAME with the name of the person who can open this gift.

To set the date for this gift to be opened, type: /496 date1 YYYY-MM-DD
Replace YYYY-MM-DD with the numbers that make up the earliest the gift can be opened i.e. 2007-12-31, or 2007-08-06. (you must use zeros before single digit numbers)

To reset the box after it's been opened you would use the command:

/496 reset

ADDING ITEMS TO YOUR BOX

In order to add items to your gift box, right click on the box and select "edit", then select the "contents" tab. Drag any items you wish to give into the box (items must be transferrable!). DO NOT delete the gift script out of the box, or the gift will not work. The gift script will not be given to the recipient.
