Hot Pot is a card game for 1 to 4 players, where you win by created 3 matching sets of cards. Matches can be EXACT (with the exact same picture) or by CATEGORY (where the 3 cards are in the same category/color). The first player to make 3 matching sets wins.
To Start
Sit on the game table and select an open player seat. There are 4 players, and each player has their colored side of the table where they play. When all players wishing to join have done so, any player may click on the table to get the menu, then click on Start Game.
Your Hand
The 9 hexagons on the board in the colored area represent the cards you have to work with. A blank hexagon is an empty card slot. When you start the game, you are dealt 8 random cards, leaving one card empty (blank). The game system automatically sorts your hand looking for matches and places the matches to the left. As you draw and discard, the game will automatically resort your hand, so don't worry when the cards move around on you.
The Turn
The first player is randomly selected. You may play with 1 to 4 real players, one per avatar, or play against dummy computer players. The game detects if there are players seated and will use a dummy player if a player is missing at the start of the game or if someone leaves during the game.
On your turn, you get 30 seconds to draw a card and then, if you don't win, to discard 1 of the 9 cards in your hand.
To Draw: simply click on the center DRAW PILE to draw one card from the deck, or click on ANY of the 4 discard piles that are showing cards to take the TOP card of of that discard pile.
Once you draw, you will now have 9 cards in your hand. If you win, the game will detect it and announce it. If not, you must discard.
To Discard: simply left click on the card you want to get rid of and it will be removed from your hand (the hand will sort and move around into matches) and the card appears on your discard pile.
TURN TIMER!
You only get 30 seconds to draw and discard. If you draw and fail to discard in time, a random card is taken from your hand, which could upset your plans. If you have not drawn when time runs out, the game will draw a card from the discard pile and then discard a random card. So, it is possible to win even though you did not manually draw.
Note: dummy players only get 5 seconds to make their turn. This is just to provide actual players with time to observe what is going on.
Winning
When the game detects a player has 3 matching sets, that player will be indicated and they celebrate. After 30 seconds, the game ends, resets, and you may click on the table and pick START GAME to start a new game. You can also wait to allow players to leave or join.
Standing Up
If you stand up once a game is in progress, it will remove you as a player and convert you into a computer player.
End Game
If all players stand up from the game, it will end.
