A rare Kerman Persian rug. Sourced from my comprehensive catalogues of current and past auction items.

The History of Kerman:

The city of Kerman, home to one of the first royally sponsored rug workshops, is over 1000 years old and has a rich Persian rug-weaving history. Kerman rugs are a favourite of western collectors, who appreciate their superb craftsmanship and exquisite designs.

Description of Kerman Style:

Kerman Persian rugs are hand-woven in the city of Kerman. They are treasured as some of the most beautiful of all Persian rugs. Traditional Kerman rug patterns feature intricate and ornate borders and central medallions. The details have architectural or floral themes in pale pastel tones with white and gold trim. The fields are usually simple and wide open, with strong colours such as deep red and navy blue. Other Kerman rug patterns include the Lavar, with garden, tree of life, vase and all-over mille-fleur designs. There are also many pictorial patterns that tell the important stories of Persian history.

Please note the original dimensions of this rug. Although supplied as modifiable, over stretching may distort the pattern. Also note that as a representation of a handmade product it may have less than perfect linage. This part of the beauty of such a rug.
