This is a boxed (unbirthed) KittyCatS kitten. Box can remain in inventory indefinitely. Once birthed the cat must be fed. To birth, make sure the land you're on has at least 14 prims free, rez box, left-click on it, and select "Unpack" in the menu to begin the birthing process. (NEVER "Open", "Edit", or otherwise attempt to unpack a boxed kitten in any other way.)
