This instrument is based on one I saw being played at St. Louis Cathedral in the square. I fell in love with the sound of it, but I do not yet have a version that can make music.
There are demonstrations of this kind of instrument being played, if you search Toumani Diabate plays the Kora, you will find such a demonstration, but once again, this version of the creation in second life does not make any sound.
The physical beauty of this instrument alone was enough for me to think you might like it around if you have room for it.
The kora is an instrument tied closely to the cultures of West Africa. Found throughout modern-day Senegal, Mali, Gambia, and Guinea, the kora is deeply embedded in Griot (Jali) culture and has been for hundreds of years. The kora has deep roots as an instrument of storytelling and folklore in 16th century West Africa, and has been played by the same musical guilds since then; however, this cultural framework is quickly changing, and today, the kora is played by many more diverse groups than in the past.
