The LeMans Supercar 1.0 was designed to address some common problems found in so many cars on Second life. The goal was to produce an affordable vehicle which would steer smoothly and easily on public Linden roads, be fun to drive at different speeds, and have decent sim-crossing ability.
In order to accomplish this, I have utilized a very light driving script and minimal prim count. The rezzed vehicle is only 38 Land impact and 10 running scripts, and hence does not have things like opening doors, and has only a minimal interior. I have also configured each of the 12 gears to have its own specific turning radius. Essentially, the slower you go, the tighter it will turn, and the faster you go, the wider the turn. This should fit your LL road driving needs quite well, as you will not experience the frequent oversteer that happens with most vehicles. When moving more slowly, or setting up for a tight corner, you will need to shift down a few gears in order to turn well, as the car will understeer if you try to turn tightly at high speeds.
All twelve gears are usable, but I have made the gear ratios fairly close together, and your driving experience on LL roads will be best if you use PgUp and PgDn as a form of accelerator pedal. I tend to stick in the range between gears 2 and 7 on public roads. Be warned, the car is extremely fast in gears 7 and up, and will easily exceed 100mph. Gear 1 is super slow, and useful mainly for parking or squeezing into tight spots. If you come to a full stop, the vehicle will pivot in place by using the right or left arrow keys only.
Sim crossings are good with this vehicle (and the test area near the shop has some of the worst crossings in Secondlife, so be careful) but of course, best done at lower speeds. Sometimes you can get away with a high-speed crossing, but it can also really mess things up. If your camera gets messed up, try going in and out of mouselook to see if it fixes the camera position. You can also adjust camera distance using the scroll wheel. If all else fails, reset by standing and sitting again.
The main version is tuned for LL roads and has a passenger seat as well.
The quiet version is identical to the main version, but uses the default SL sound package instead of my custom racecar sounds.
The race version has tighter turning at higher speeds and is only suitable for racetrack use, and has no passenger seat. It also will exceed 300mph in top gear if you don't fall off-sim first. It also includes the optional HUD (see below)
The car is modifiable, and you can select the various faces in order to change colors. Additionally, the driving script has a config notecard (found in the contents of the vehicle in edit mode) which allows for configuration of all of the options, so you can fine tune it to your liking. I recommend keeping unmodified copies around, so that you know what the original values are.
Known Bugs/Issues:
-The passenger seat has its own sit target. As such, if your passenger sits directly on it there should be no issues. However, if they just right-click "Drive", then sometimes another HUD will appear, and the engine start sound will play again. If a second HUD appears, detach the first one and then accept the second from the dialog. It's better to tell your passengers to sit directly on the passenger seat. Hopefully I can figure a way around this bug in a later version.
-The temp-attach HUD has a number of issues, and I am currently unable to adapt it into a permanent inventory HUD. Sometimes it fails to request permissions, and then you will need to sit again in order for it to attach. Sometimes, when people don't respond to the permission request, the HUD will stay rezzed a few meters above the car, floating in air. This can lead to excess HUDs taking up prim space on your property, so watch out for them and delete them.
-HUD communications are decent, but the horn or lights may require two clicks. If you end up with more than one HUD attached, things look muddy
and you will need to manually detach the extra HUDs. I personally still use the HUD version, and am used to it, but if it annoys you it can be disabled, and the car works fine without it.
-GTFO is not enabled as of yet, mainly because they are not adding new VAPIs, but is planned.
Since I still love the car, even with all of its issues, I am making it available to you at a much lower price than you would normally pay for a car that drives like this in Secondlife.
Happy Driving!
