Experiments showed that due to the complex geometry of the knots adding anything other than the very simplest of textures was unfeasible. However, the knots do accept other graphical effects, such as solid colours, glow, transparency, and shine. The knots can easily be made to look like metallic tubes, for example.
Some knots consist of a single strand and hence can only be coloured with a single colour. Others have two or more strands, which can be coloured separately.
Land impacts range from 4 for K(2,3) up to 25 for K(3,9).
