Worth it, with caveats.
Layout and scaling are A-1. Too many prebuilts do the usual SL thing of scaling door/ceiling heights for AVs that're 9' tall. Actually having rooms with clear intent for their use? Also lovely. From a design standpoint this gets full marks.
The construction itself is also done in a decently smart manner which reduces the LI (more on this later) and allows for a decent level of modding.
Ex: Kitchen & Bath have a shared object for the floor, and the object for the walls is also the sub-floor. Was able to make the sub-floor face transparent, and then unlink/delete the BR/KI floors and spin up my own from basic prims that allowed me to both change the vibe and make under-floor room for a specific toilet in the bath. I then made a quick new sub-floor, and all-in-all it was the same LI.
Now, the LOD here is... bad. There's no way around it; I need to have my draw distance at 96m just to not get pop-in from down the hallway, and given that I'm already going with this smaller build that uses 2x the LI of a similar style place... Yeah I wasn't happy at the outset.
That said, the build philosophy of shared objects w/ multiple faces, relying on baked shadows etc - There's a real level of craft that you just don't get from other builders, and that matters (for good and ill) when you start to dive in and really make it your own.
Overall a 9/10. Would be perfect if:
- LOD was improved
- LI was reduced
- Included full-perm textures / had an alt version w/o baked shadows, OR
- Shadows were baked onto their objects (ie. fireplace shadows moving w/ fireplace) instead of on walls/floors.
nice looking, but....
I would love to love this, very nice design, but.... don't follow the instructions for the occasionally flickering prims.. if you unlink this you are down a deep rabbit hole ... i could never walk down the hallway again, nor could i delete all the parts to start over... had to move the platform. no biggie, again nice enuf if you don't try to modify.
Tres Belle
This build is one of a kind. I have been in second life a long time. The attention to detail is fabulous. From the textures, to the effects mimicking lighting, to the wrap around of Paris. And at this price? There are builds that cost twice as much with less. This build is a whole mood.
Cute
The inside looks cute. The rooms are small but you can stretch the build to make it work. The outside is very plain box looking. and there are a few joins visable. overall quite nice but i advise going to take a look first
Nice build
I too wondered where the hud for the environment was then found the control panel by the door. I had to set the lod factor to 4. There is "moire" effect on some of the horizontals as you zoom out, but this is common in second life in my experience.
fantastic Haussmann apartment
This penthouse looks incredibly good. Very detailed and in particular the way in which the light and shadows are designed is impressive. The handy controls for the surround and even the weather outside are very valuable. I shoot professional videos in SL and this is going to be a location I will use often.
