A rare Nain Persian rug. Sourced from my comprehensive catalogues of current and past auction items.

The History of Nain:

Nain is a fairly new rug-weaving centre near Isfahan. Up until the middle of the 20th century Nain was known as a centre for the production of high quality, hand-made, woollen cloth. After World War II the market for the fabric disappeared and the Nain weavers' knowledge of textiles was adapted to rug weaving. Nain rugs are similar to those of Isfahan, but have distinct colours and a short pile. The patterns usually feature an all-over arabesque and curvilinear floral design.

Description of Nain Style:

Nain Persian rugs are hand-woven in the city of Nain, east of Isfahan. Precise, delicate and stunningly beautiful, they are considered to be some of the world’s finest rugs. Nain rugs are woven on cotton or silk and are often signed. They are woven in beige and a spectacular range of blue tones. Nain`s feature curvilinear vines, forked leaves, Shah Abbas flowers, birds, animals and regal borders.

Please note the original dimensions of this rug. Although supplied as modifiable, over stretching may distort the pattern. Also note that as a representation of a handmade product it may have less than perfect linage. This part of the beauty of such a rug.

I hope you enjoy this rug as much as enjoyed finding it. Should you have any questions please IM me inworld.
