OFEQ Palantari
INSTRUCTIONS
Rez your palantiri around your land. Rename them to something appropriate so they're recognizable from other palantiri. Touch a palantir or right click and choose the Look option. A menu will pop up showing the different locations you can look at. These locations are the other palantiri in the region, and the locations you have configured. Select one of the locations, and you will see and hear what is happening there (Be sure to read the SL limitations section below). The palantiri will detect all other palantari in the area, including those owned by others. The palantiri have no respect for person, and do not discriminate, so be warned. Anyone can use any palantir to look at any other palantir.
After selecting your destination to view, you will get the menu again, giving you the opportunity to switch to other locations. It is best not to hit the Ignore button, as you may have difficulty getting the menu back again. To stop using the stone, you can stand at any time, although it’s safest to choose the Look Away option from the menu.
CUSTOMIZING
You may add your own custom locations to the stone by editing the locations configuration file. The format of the file is:
NAME|<FOCUS_VECTOR>|<POSITION_VECTOR>
Name is a friendly name you wish to give the location. Focus vector is the location you want to look at. Position vector is the position you will be looking from, and should be close to, but not the same as focus. For best results, position vector should be just a few meters away focus vector. Each location must be on a line of its own.
You may resize the stone if you wish. Be advised, that resizing the stones may change their behavior. The larger palantiri can be heard by everyone in the area, and is useful for when groups of people wish to communicate over the stones. Someone must still look into the stone to activate it. Smaller palantiri are only usuable by one person at a time.
SECOND LIFE® LIMITATIONS
Draw distance and camera constraints will hinder the use of the stones. If you have not already disabled camera constraints, you will need to do that, in order to use the stones. First enable the Advanced menus by hitting CTRL-ALT-SHIFT-D. Then click on the Advanced menu, and select Disable Camera Constraints. This will unlock your camera, and allow it to go great distances away from you. The next thing you will need to do is adjust your draw distance. It is not suggested that you leave this setting higher for regular use, and should only be adjusted as needed. Go to the Edit menu and select Preferences. Then go to the Graphics section. There you should find the Draw Distance setting. Increase that number when you want to view a palantir that is far away. Furthermore, even with your draw distance set to 512, some things, including agents (people), will not always be visible at extreme distances.
The palantiri will only work over land you have permission to run scripts on, and you will only be able to hear the remote locations over which you have script and build permissions on.
If your camera seems to be messed up after using the stones, you can usually clear it up by locking your camera on something, and then simply hitting the escape key. Under worse conditions, you may be forced to relog.
When using the palantiri, an additional prim is rezzed.
