This HUD is more than a compass, it will help you find the fast wind that you might not had known was there if you didn't go a little to port, or a little to starboard. This HUD is designed for one purpose. Speed!
This HUD is for use with OD-65 boats, and is configured to the OD-65 specification. The sail angles provided on this HUD may not work on other boats, including the VO-70. You are in luck though, it is likely that if there is a boat, we have made a HUD for it.
Q: Does this HUD really make you go faster?
The HUD is a tool, and like any tool it depends on how proficient one is at using the tool. The HUD provides information that is either lacking or difficult to read on most boat HUD displays. We expect that once you become proficient using the HUD in the context of your sailing, you will notice a significant improvement from your current race times.
Q: Is the HUD connected to the boat?
No. The HUD runs independent of your OD-65 Boat. There are no connections between the two.
Q. Do you have a demo?
We have demos of all of our HUDs. They are all built with a big DEMO sign, over your screen, and set to self-destruct, leaving much of your monitor intact. Please try the demo if you are not sure. We are confident that you will agree that it is worth the Lindens to improve your sailing speed.
Q. How was this designed?
The HUD was designed from actual use under race conditions., by a noob sailboat racer who was hell bent on improvement. That happened in a week. This HUD was designed to take it to the next level.
Q: I heard that HUDs make you go slower... Is this true?
The right answer here without trying to sell you a line of bull by saying "no, of course not!", is "it depends." A HUD can make you go slower. It all depends on how it is scripted. In many cases people go sailing covered in various AO's and other adornments that do nothing but add unnecessary load to available processing power. It is usually a good idea to leave that stuff at the pier. We consider this HUD is a necessary part of SL sailboat racing just as a compass, chart and other kinds of navigational instruments would be to a real life sailboat captain. In most cases, the HUD's that people use throughout SL do not bode well as they are not intended for sailboat racing. By comparision, our code has been streamlined, tightened and optimized so that no code exists that is not needed, and no variable holds a memory slot unless it is absolutely required. Like your OD-65 boat, our HUD is designed for sailboat racing.
