After the dining silver service commisioned by Catherine the Great, Empress of Russia, to one of the most renowned Parisian goldsmiths of it's day, the Orloff dining service precursor of early neoclassicism, was decorated with acanthus laurel leaves ,interlaced berries and pineapples.
A must for lavish suppers, these expensive silver services often offered a topic of conversation around the table as well as a way of pastime.
